Great to see so many APS members and supporters at the naming of the “Professor Michael J Cousins Pain Management and Research Centre” at RNS, Sydney, this morning. Just a little bit of information to keep you all updated:

Professor Michael Cousins AO

We wish to congratulate Prof 20140211 Michael Cousins_photoMichael Cousins for being made an officer in the Order of Australia in the recent Australia Day Honours.

This prestigious award recognises Michael’s dedication and life’s work of helping people to manage their pain.

Professor Cousins is a founding member and past president of the Australian Pain Society (APS) and a past councillor and president of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).

His career as a clinician, researcher, educator, administrator and community advocate has spanned over 44 years and he is widely recognised for his outstanding leadership and contribution to the field of pain management both within Australia and internationally.

Further to being awarded an AO, Professor Cousins was also recognised at the opening and naming of the new “Professor Michael J Cousins Pain Management and Research Centre” at the Royal North Shore Hospital, in the presence of the Hon. Jillian Skinner, MP, Minister for Health and Minister for Medical Research. This ceremony took place on 11 February 2014.
